Have you ever walked into a house and immediately felt uncomfortable?

Nothing is visibly wrong. The property may be clean, well maintained and beautifully presented. Yet something feels off. The atmosphere seems heavy, tense or draining. You find yourself wanting to leave, even though you can't explain why.

Most people have experienced this at some point.

Over the years, I've visited homes where families have been struggling to settle, properties that won't sell, workplaces where morale has collapsed, and houses where the occupants describe feeling anxious, exhausted or unsettled for no obvious reason. Or, Interestingly, a home brand new, spotlessly clean, not a thing out of place—and it feels sterile.

I'm often asked whether I believe houses absorb energy.

My answer is simple: houses absorb or become our experiences.

Think about the events that take place within four walls. Relationships begin and end. Families celebrate milestones. Arguments occur. Illness, grief, stress and conflict leave their mark. Sometimes a property has been occupied by people who have experienced significant challenges, and occasionally the atmosphere seems to reflect that history.

Even without a spiritual explanation, most people recognise that environments affect how we feel. Walk into a warm, welcoming home and you immediately relax. Walk into a workplace filled with tension and you can often sense it within minutes.

When a house feels heavy, it doesn't necessarily mean there is anything sinister present. More often, it feels like the property is carrying a residue of old emotions, old patterns or old stories that no longer belong there.

This is particularly common after:

  • Separation or divorce
  • Family conflict
  • Domestic violence
  • Serious illness
  • Difficult tenants
  • Financial hardship
  • Extended periods of stress
  • Major life transitions

A house clearing is designed to help reset the atmosphere. The goal is not drama or ghost hunting. It is about helping a property feel lighter, calmer and more supportive for the people living there.

I've seen remarkable outcomes over the years. Families report sleeping better. Occupants feel more relaxed. New opportunities seem to emerge. In one memorable case, a Brisbane property that had been sitting on the market for months received an acceptable offer just days after a clearing.

Coincidence? Perhaps.

What matters most is that people often tell me they feel the difference.

Sometimes it isn't you.

Sometimes it's the space around you.
